Apple iPad

This one

I guess you are aware of the fact that a new product from Apple has been launched.

If you are not, check the link. Watch the two videos, they are relevant. Really, check them out. Watch every word. I find there was a lot of BS in that.

Their slogan is a strike of genius: "Our most advanced technology [behold how advanced its technology is!] in a magical [yes, in modern times, we bring... magic! it's magical, really, we have no idea how it does it] and revolutionary [yes!] device at an unbelievable price [here i fully agree]".

More specifications here: http://gizmodo.com/5458292/apple-ipad-everything-you-need-to-know

Main points: it's a larger iPhone, that costs a lot to have 3G (i.e. ubiquitous network), no phone calls, no usb ports (only by an adapter, only to transfer photos from a camera - same as the iPod, in fact), no card reader (there is an adapter however), no flash, no camera.... nothing. And damn expensive.

Comments on /. [ http://apple.slashdot.org/story/10/01/27/1849207/Apples-iPad-Out-In-the-Open?art_pos=9 ] are brilliant. I quote:
"It's more than just an iPod touch that won't fit in your pocket...it's also an underpowered netbook with no keyboard. It's the worst of both worlds!"
"It actually has a robust power source; it is powered almost entirely by the user's sense of self-importance."
"I was looking at the iPhone the other day and I was just thinking that it would be so much better if it didn't fit into any of my pockets."
"Good god, you mean I can pick the thing up and actually turn it? I'm so excited I'm about to soil myself! Will Apple innovations never cease?"

But all the first comment page is worth a read.

And a just discussion about why it is crap: http://kotaku.com/5458822/why-the-ipad-is-crap-futurism

Watching the videos again, the quantity of marketing BS they are trying to convey is incredible!

I really hope they don't sell it at all. It would be even good for them, I think, to understand that they went to far with it. Too far with making great hardware that is limited by lack of connectivity and openness (openness as anything other than this strict control of everything running on it).

In the end, some funny stuff about it (oh, and there will be so much more to come):

http://www.pidjin.net/2010/01/25/iwish/ (this was drawn before the launch. Actually, I think this might as well be what actually happened, not the day before, but some time prior to the so much expected launch. Just that in reality, there was no genie).

Njoy! (and short live the iPad!)
